WPS St Brendan's
For the past 3 Fridays our Workplace Skills 1 Year 10 class have volunteered at St Brendan's Homeless Respite in Safety Bay from 9am to 1.30pm.
Here the students were given a variety of tasks to assist in the preparation and serving of a two course cooked meal along with packaging bread and fruit, laying out clothing and personal hygiene items as well as drinks and snack type foods that guests could take away with them. The students set up for the day, they served their community, and they cleaned up at the end... doing dishes, sweeping the floors and packing up.
As you can imagine, nerves were high on the first day, but they all got in there, followed instructions and really did their best in providing a valuable service to some of our homeless and low socio-economic community members.
From week 7 our other year 10 class, Workplace Skills 2, will go out and volunteer their time in the same way and we are looking forward to sharing some photos and highlights from their time as well!
We value and appreciate this wonderful opportunity for our students to participate in providing such an important service to our community.
Well done to everyone involved!
Below is some amazing feedback we received via email from St Brendan's Homeless Respite manager, Leanne Doyle.
"I just want to thank you for allowing the last group of students (Emily, Pip, Angelique, Zac, Bayley & Cameron) to volunteer with our Service.
The students were all very polite and were very eager to help.
They attempted all tasks requested of them without complaint and were a massive help to me preparing for our Christmas meal by sorting donated food items and gifts.
They also helped serve the meal and do the dishes after as well as set up the venue and pack it away.We are looking forward to hosting the next group of students".
Regards
Leanne Doyle
