NAIDOC Week 2025
Over the last two week, our students have proudly embraced the 2025 NAIDOC theme: “The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy.” This theme celebrates the power of young people to carry forward the strength of their communities, guided by the wisdom of ancestors and inspired by the future they are shaping.
Throughout the week, students engaged in a variety of learning experiences that deepened their understanding and appreciation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture.
Last week on Tuesday, both Schools came together for a whole-school NAIDOC assembly, highlighted by an incredible performance from Noongar dance group, Midn Marr Dreaming. Then on the Wednesday, students chose from a range of hands-on cultural activities including bush tucker tasting, face painting, bracelet making, and a powerful talk by emerging Torres Strait Islander leader Mahonri Eteru. This week on Wednesday, the students had the opportunity to make organic skin care products with Djirrily Dreaming.
Across Term 2, students have also been collaborating on a large-scale Aboriginal Art Project with artist Mel Spillman, using traditional symbols to share our School's mission through a vibrant mural.
In Science, students are exploring culture and knowledge through a Two-Way Science approach—learning from both Aboriginal and Western knowledge systems, and celebrating Aboriginal ways of knowing, doing and being.
We are proud of the curiosity, respect and creativity our students have shown in learning about and honouring the world’s oldest living cultures.
