Tan 9 - Term 2

This term in our Project-Based Learning, Tan 9 students have been exploring the exciting world of chemical reactions! They’ve learned how substances change into new ones with different properties and how these reactions are part of everyday life.

Throughout the term, the students experimented with common materials like baking soda and vinegar and were amazed by the fizzing bubbles and texture changes that happened when these substances interacted.

One of the highlights of the term was combining art with science, as students folded paper towels and dipped the ends into the mixture to create their own reactions.

To make it even more fun, we added food colouring to the mixture, making the reactions even more vibrant and visually exciting. Then, at just the right moment, our principal joined in on the fun and became part of the experiment, adding even more excitement to the day!

To finish off the lesson, we come together for a class discussion where we talked about the signs of chemical reactions and whether what they were seeing was a physical or chemical change. We encourage you to ask your child about the experiments and discoveries they made this term, and maybe even spot some chemical reactions happening around your own home!
