WPS 1 & 2

On Tuesday the 20th May, Year 10 students went to Boola Bardip, the WA Museum. Once there we started with a facilitated workshop called Managing Country. We learned about how the first Australians cared for the land, including their use of fish traps and fire-stick farming. The students were interested to find out that they made sure that the sticks had holes in them to prevent small fish from getting caught and all the sticks were removed when they moved inland. The fish trap we looked at was one created by the Noongar Menang people in Albany several thousand years ago. After a late morning tea we then visited other parts of the museum. It was interesting to see the dinosaurs that once roamed Western Australia. All the students agreed that on the excursion they both learned a lot and had fun too.
