Year 9 TAFE visit
On Friday, November 1st, Nirvana and Olivia had the opportunity to attend a tester session in Animal Care at Murdoch TAFE. The day began with an exciting tour of the facilities, where they got to meet some fascinating animals, including fish and leafy stick insects, and learned some fun facts along the way.
After a short break, they joined a classroom session where they were given lots of valuable information on potential future studies in animal care certificates. During these lessons we got to share the classroom with three adorable dogs, who were extremely well behaved.
Next, we were introduced to clicker training, which is where owners utilize a clicker to let their dog know that they have done something right, quickly followed by a treat. Our instructor demonstrated this technique with a dog and then our hardworking furry pals had to go home.
Student were then able to practice their new skills in training Ms Benson to complete certain tasks. Finally, to finish the day students used some materials to hand make some dog toys.
Following an amazing day, we started our trip home, quickly realizing that it was going to take a lot longer than the trip up. A closed section of the freeway made our trip go on for what felt like forever, leaving the TAFE at 1.40pm and not getting back to school until 4.20pm. Both students showed incredible resilience, neither complaining and just accepting that we were in a tough situation and that we would be through it eventually.
