Tan 9

Tan 9 has started 2023 with a ‘Be Prepared’ mindset. This concept was explored in a ‘virtual world’ where we were swept up in a (rather unfortunate) scenario of a ‘zombie apocalypse’.

Our Fictional narrative writing planning helped give us all a few different points of view and overall insight into the world which we soon decided absolutely needed some rules and structures. Settling into our two class ‘Clans’ and using a democratic process to select leaders & reserve leaders certainly proved useful.

Our HASS program has given us several opportunities to explore the importance of rules/laws as well as the ever-challenging need to ‘get along’. We know this is no easy task, but when outside factors (like avoiding zombies) is included we certainly needed to use the Positive Education skills of understanding our own emotional states and using effective emotional regulation techniques has helped us a lot already.

Once we had that organised, needless to say our tummies needed attention so using mathematics to plan effective missions to collect food and maintain safety ‘perimeters’ became a critical skill to learn and master.Thankfully, we have been successful, and now the two clever Tan9 clans are planning together to build a real-world cooking device that can work even without gas or electricity to heat and cook our tasty snacks.
