John Tonkin Excursion
Our Years 9–12 students recently enjoyed a rich learning experience on their excursion to the 'John Tonkin College ESC Disability Expo'. The expo, held in the MARC's showcase basketball stadium at the Mandurah Aquatic and Recreation Centre, featured a variety of stallholders showcasing adaptive technologies and inclusive community activities available to our students, along with several 'Microenterprises' presented by the students of John Tonkin ESC. There were plenty of hands-on opportunities – from trying inclusive sports like volleyball and soccer to capturing memories at the photo booth, exploring virtual reality, and much more.
The students also had an unexpected learning experience when a fire alarm and evacuation added extra excitement to our day! However, our students handled it calmly and resiliently as we waited for the firefighters' all-clear and were able to return to the expo.
It was a memorable day filled with valuable learning experiences, and our students’ exemplary behaviour was a credit to them all.
