National Carers Week Luncheon 2024
On Wednesday 16th of October we held our annual Carers Lunch for our parents and carers.
This is a very special event in our calendar as it allows us to recognise and celebrate all the wonderful carers in our school community.
Carers WA joined us again to share with us all the support options they have for Carers who are needing assistance.
Neetu our Provisional School Psychologist spoke to us on the benefits of mindfulness and how to find those moments in everyday life. From being in the car to washing the dishes, being in the moment helps us to recentre our mind. Neetu led us in a box breathing method, Breathe in for 4 counts, hold for 4 counts, breathe out for 4 counts and hold for 4 counts. Neetu will be presenting a Triple P course at the end of November, more information will be coming out about this in the coming weeks.
We had a good laugh deciding on what things we would rather have, an endless supply of energy or an endless supply of patience? One of our parents suggested that if she had an endless supply of energy, then she would also have an endless supply of patience. A personal chef, or a cleaner? This was a room divider, I think it was 50/50 in the end!
Carers who attended shared a delicious lunch and took home a paint by numbers to enjoy in their own time.
These events wouldn't be a success without teamwork, our Carers were able to speak to our different team members about various issues. Thank you to Jacqui Daniels who supports with NDIS connections and queries; Amanda Bake our Youth Worker who assists students to connect in the community and attendance solutions; Katrina Farmer our school nurse who is available to guide and advise Carers of students who have mental health or medical needs; and a very special thanks to Teresa Nvota who organised the event and is our Parent Liaison Officer supporting families with Centrelink and accessing Disability Services, who has been acting as Youth Worker while Amanda was on leave.
Also a big thank you to Jake, one of our Year 8 students who helped put the finishing touches on our tables by creating multiple flower arrangements that brought some colour and beauty to the tables.
