Yagan 9 Term 3
This term has been another busy one for Yagan 9, with rich learning opportunities challenging our enquiring minds. In Science, we have been studying energy and how it is transformed to make our everyday lives easier. We completed an electricity survey of our school using the MELTS acronym - Mechanical, Electrical, Light, Thermal and Sound - to identify what energy our school uses the most. Students then tested their theories about what material they think would be best to insulate a can of drinking water. They used wool, can holders, aluminium foil and other everyday material to test their hypothesis. In the end, there was no clear winner! This survey activity transferred well into our maths curriculum focus, creating graphs. We practised creating several graphs, including bar, column, and plot graphs, and we used the science energy survey results to develop our column graphs. It has been an engaging, fun and rewarding term so far, and we are all looking forward to the next few weeks ahead.
